French Coffee Press Vs. Drip Coffee
In one corner we have the french press which has stood for centuries.
The other corner we have the drip based coffee machine.
One large question is why are french coffee presses not nearly as popular
as drip based coffee machines?
It is a valid question. The answer stretches into the realm of human
behavior.
Generally the path of least resistance is something we choose every day
of our lives.
Most people will usually choose a drip based coffee machine because of
their simplicity.
With a drip based coffee machine you toss in a filter and pour in your
foldgers or maxwell house or some other variety of coffee grounds. Add water and press a button and walk off to do something
else.
This continues for generations across families. And a french
coffee press isn't even taken into consideration to use because we have already presented ourselves the path of least
resistance in drip based coffee machines.
If something isn't broken, why fix it? Usually this is a good thing,
messing around will sometimes break something that otherwise is in perfect working order.
The fact remains despite any human behavior that coffee filters hold a lot
of the oils and thus flavor that is in coffee grounds.
Experiment for yourself sometime a cup of coffee using the same
coffee grounds (not recycled mind you) in a drip based and coffee press and compare the taste and flavor of the two.
The french coffee press if used correctly will come out in the lead time
and time again.
This probably will lead someone to thinking what I originally was
after I discovered coffee presses. Why did it take all these years to stumble across such a marvelous yet simplistic invention? Better late than never.
